A Lukestrong Quarter Auction will take place on Sunday, October 13, 2019 at German's Villa in Vermilion, Ohio. Doors open at 12:30 pm. The auction takes place from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm. Concession food doors open at 12:30 pm.
The event will feature food, a quarter auction, 50/50 drawing, and a liquor basket raffle. Admission is $10 ages 5 and up, which includes 2 paddles.
A quarter auction is a combination of a Chinese raffle and bingo. Each basket or raffle item is listed on a printed spreadsheet and each person playing has a sheet to follow. The MC will announce the item up for bid. The bid amount will range from 1 to 4 quarters, depending on the item. If you want to bid you will place the appropriate number of quarters into the container in the middle of the table and hold up your numbered paddle. If it is a 1 quarter bid and you put up 1 paddle, you put 1 quarter in the container. If you want to hold up 3 paddles, you put 3 quarters in the container. If it is a 3 bid item and you put up 1 paddle, you put 3 quarters into the container. If you want to hold up 3 paddles, you put 9 quarters into the container. The MC will pull a ball from the hopper. If she calls your paddle number, you win. If she doesn't, you do not get your quarters back. They stay in the middle container.
Luke is a 10 year old boy who is bravely battling brain and spinal cancer. His parents are both home with him the majority of the time. His mother returned to work part time over the summer. He is their only child and taking care of him is their number one priority. Therefore, their income is extremely minimal.
Luke was life-flighted at the end of 2018 to the Cleveland Clinic where he had an emergency craniotomy to remove as much of the tumor in his brain that they could. Since then he has had 2 additional surgeries, countless tests, and has undergone radiation and 2 rounds of chemotherapy. Luke has spent 36 days this year in the hospital. The family is currently awaiting the next round of scans to determine what the next course of treatment will be.
Luke is a very happy, faithful, strong and grateful young man. #Lukestrong is a perfect way to describe him.
